Announcing the release of JPEGView 3.1 ╤ December, 1993
Enclosed is version 3.1 of my postcardware application JPEGView, a fast, flexible JPEG, PICT, and GIF viewer for the Macintosh. This latest release adds a bit of functionality and fixes a few bugs that were in the previous (3.0) release; users of previous versions are strongly encouraged to upgrade to this latest version.
IMPORTANT NOTE: JPEGView *requires* System 7.0 or later *and* any version of
QuickTime to run. The latest version of the QuickTime extension (1.6.1) can be found
via anonymous FTP at ftp.apple.com in the /dts/mac/sys.soft/quicktime directory.
Users of JPEGView 3.0 or later also have the option to become a fully registered user. Registered users who send in a one-time registration fee of US$20 (US$15 for those who have sent in postcards for a previous version) receive a printed, bound copy of the full JPEGView documentation, along with an official JPEGView 3.1 release disk, containing the complete JPEGView 3.1 release plus a few of my favorite JPEG images. Full details are given in the on-line help (available from the help (a.k.a. "balloon") menu).
Please note that registration is optional; individual use of JPEGView obligates you only to send me a postcard.
Briefly, here are the important new features in version 3.1:
Ñ clean, effective background decompression
Ñ slide show interface now allows point-and-click control
Ñ new reverse and "pause and hide" functions for the slide show
Ñ stronger GIF support, including animated GIFs and GIF89 comments
Ñ JFIF images can now include pre-computed color palettes
Ñ improved modeless interface for preferences and slide show options
Ñ better virtual memory support, via the included QuickTime VM extension
Ñ conflicts with CPU, and two-monitor grayscale bugs have been fixed
